Smith Bail Bonds Serving NEPA for 55 years!

Smith Bail Bonds was opened in 1961 by Jack Smith.
Jack was brought up the hard way during the depression selling newspapers and shinning shoes. Far too soon Jack gave up being a shoe shin boy only to work in the coal mines with his father who instilled in him the importance of a hard day's work. As a young man he joined the Armed Forces and was sent to Europe to fight in WWII.
After the war Jack came home and started his own painting company, an entrepreneur right from the beginning.  He took on industrial size jobs, such as the Chamberland Building in Scranton, American Tobacco and the Stegmeier Brewery in Wilkes-Barre.
As if his study in hard knocks had not been enough, during the 1940s' Jack became a Prize Fighter with an impressive winning record.   He fought in Madison Square Garden, as did two of his sons, who also became professional boxers, one of which was a three time AAU  Champion.  After his own career as a Prize fighter ended he started the Jack Smith Boys Club during the 1960s' trying to inspire area youth and keep them off the streets.  He was also a founding member of the Wyoming Valley Boxing Hall of Fame.
With all of his experience and connections in the world of "Tough Guys" it was natural when Jack made the decision to become a bail bondsman in the early 1960s'.  He started his business on South Main Street in Wilkes-Barre, PA.  His son Michael learned the business early and took over for his father as the yougest Professional Bail Bondsman in the United States.
In June 1973, Michael, at the young age of 20 swept Luzerne county off their feet and took command of the bail industry in NEPA.  His grip has never lost its strength and after 55 years he has passed the family business to his youngest daughter Courtney.
Smith Bail Bonds is now headed up by Courtney Smith who has been working with her father, Mike, for 4 years before getting her own license in 07'.  Smith Bail Bonds is run with the care and compassion that has passed on by decades of knowledge and experience.
